December 2013 Favorites

December Favorites 2013

I have been absent from blogging for over a week due to my attempt at jump starting one of my New Year’s resolutions. I’ve fully immersed myself in it and put many other things aside. Although building my blog was also one of my resolutions… fail. Getting back into the groove I bring to you, my December favorites. I’ve decided to skip the New Year’s Resolution post, I’m late to the party anyway and many of mine are “classified.” I’m a secret agent shh… ;)

Rose Gold Eyeshadows – Loreal Hip Tenacious and Loreal Infallible Bunged and Brilliant

NYX Illuminator- Magnetic

NYX Illuminator- Magnetic

Rose gold was my go-to color this December. I normally stick with bronze and copper tones so the rose gold wasn’t venturing too far from the norm for me. Loreal Hip Tenacious and Loreal Infallible Bunged and Brilliant were the shadows I used to create a rose gold eye like the one in this FOTD post. To compliment my eyes, I used my new favorite NYX Illuminator in Magnetic. This illuminator does have a bit of sparkle to it, making it unsuitable for everyday wear for some. However, it was great to wear to holiday parties or nights with friends.

The Body Shop Dragonfruit Lip Butter

The Body Shop Lip Butter – Dragonfruit

I fell in love again with Maybelline’s Baby Lips and used nearly half a stick of Peach Kiss over the month of December (obsessive chapstick application at work, lol). The body shop lip butters are also a new/old favorite. They were a favorite of mine years ago and I sort of forgot about them. Hard to believe with my Body Shop obsession. Santa must have known that I needed a reminder because I received a Dragonfruit lip butter in my stocking and have been religiously using it ever since.

Skin Care

Trader Joe's Tea Tree Oil

Trader Joe’s Tea Tree Oil

Over the month of December, I really started to take a look at my skin care routine. I’m only 26, but I have had this sense of impending doom about aging lately and decided to up my skin care routine… or lack thereof. Tea tree oil has really helped me control my mild hormonal acne. I’ve purchased many new tea tree oil products and have been using straight tea tree oil* to help dry new pimples overnight. The difference tea tree oil has made in my skin care routine is truly amazing. I will be dedicating an entire post to skin care in the coming weeks. In the meantime, Arica over at Atelier Zozo wrote a wonderful post about the benefits of tea tree oil, check it out here.

*NOTE: It is recommended that you dilute tea tree oil, straight tea tree oil isn’t for everyone.

Thick Fuzzy Socks

Grey Scarf

Grey Scarf from Cost Plus

December is one of the coldest months in California with temperatures reaching 35-45 degrees Fahrenheit where I live (I know I’m a wimp, lol). I’ve been piling on thick fuzzy socks while I’m at home and warm scarves when I leave the house. I literally have an entire sock drawer dedicated to my fuzzy socks, it’s become an obsession.

Home Fragrance

Hot Buttered Rum Candle Tis the Season Wall Flowers

I burn a lot of candles during the winter and the Hot Buttered Rum Candle  from Bath and Body Works is my favorite. My entire house smells of caramel when I burn this. I love it! ‘Tis the Season is another good holiday scent from Bath and Body Works and smells of… well Christmas! If Christmas has a smell, this is it.

I donated my weekly Starbucks fund to charity this holiday season. However, due to the influx of Starbucks gift cards I received this month, I was able to keep my Starbucks habit without spending any money. The Gingerbread Latte is my favorite holiday drink at Starbucks or Peet’s Coffee. During my Christmas baking frenzy I also discovered a new ginger cookie recipe and it is amazing! Seriously if you’re into ginger, give this recipe a try. It can be found at All Recipes here: Big Soft Ginger Cookies.

That’s it for my belated December Favorites. Do you have any interesting resolutions for the New Year? Let me know in the comments down below and Happy New Year!

I loooove Tea Tree Oil! I’ve started using it about a month ago and as you said, it has really helped my skin improve! ^_^ I’m looking forward to your skin care routine post because I would love to know how other people use it as well. :)

Thank you and Tea Tree Oil is amazing. My mom used to force me to use it in high school (I hated the smell) but I never grew an appreciation for it. I’ve been missing out this whole time! Mother really does know best I guess… mostly ;)

  • beautylovesbooks

I love Starbucks too but it is such a waste of money! I am also trying to drink my coffee at home!

    • http://whimsicalallure.com/ Lindsey D

Me too! I only get it once a week now. It’s my Friday treat. :) I have an espresso maker at home, so I try to make lattes and mochas for myself at home when I have the time.

  • Afua Abrafi

lovely post, i like using tea tree oil

  • Miss. Louise

great post :) that highlighter looks amaaazing! I love the L’Oreal pigments…I just bought them in bright shades that I never gravitate towards haha

    • http://whimsicalallure.com/ Lindsey D

Loreal does have a lot of bright pigments. I have a bright pink, purple and green that I use on occasion. Its so hard to incorporate them into a look.

I know, I filled up my scarf hanger already!

  • Christine Ly

I use The Body Shop’s tea tree oil, but I’m thinking of trying it out from another brand so I’ll look into that one from Trader Joe’s. I’ll agree though, that it has really improved my complexion and it’s worth it even though I hate the scent.

The tea tree oil from Trader Joe’s is of good quality and has a moderate price tag :) $7.99 I think, but don’t quote me on that.

      • Christine Ly

I’m guessing that even if you’re off, it’ll still be around that price range. Is that pretty decent for 100% tea tree oil? the body shop ones are only 15%.

        • http://whimsicalallure.com/ Lindsey D

For an in-store price yes, you can find it cheaper online, although it’s usually larger quantities. Amazon would be your best bet for that.

  • Ellie

I Love tea tree oil! It is so useful for so many things!
I’m glad it has helped with your skin care!
